"Great news! We’ve been busy adding additional content to the upcoming 1.5.1 patch. Because this update is still in testing, we’re unable to release the official date these changes will go live; however, our current plans include implementing the 1.5.1 patch on the live servers in November. Please keep in mind that changes could occur as a result of any issues that we find in testing.

1. When you extract Aether, there’s a chance that Aether Poison Gas will infiltrate your body. The poison blocks gathering for a certain period of time unless you detoxify the poison.
- Once you are poisoned the only way to detoxify yourself is to utter the "Cleansing Word.”
- To utter the Cleansing Word, type the randomly given letters and numbers within the designated time
- When you utter the Word, you get three chances to enter the correct letter/number sequence. If you fail three times, Vitality Extracting and Aether Extracting are prohibited.
- The “/ExtractStatus” command provides your extraction status.
- When you have Aether Poison Gas in your body, you can still move and activate other abilities, so move to a safe place before you utter the Cleansing Word."
Okay, are they saying it was too easy so they thought it might be fun to make it even more time consuming. Seriously, I've been drinking so am I drunk or is this a bad idea.

So, now I am sober, and I have once again looked at these patch notes. I have the same opinion. Why would they take one of the most "grindy" activities in this game and complicate it even more? I think we all can agree that Aether gathering is a grind. Anything added that would make any more of a grind is obviously a monumentally bad idea. Anyone have any ideas why NCsoft would implement this sort of patch?

Because a lot of people are arguing that grinds are a good idea.
Also, it's probably a way to restrict the abilities of bots to gather the same way random character confirmations restrict bots from accessing websites.

I didn't think about the bots. In that regard it is a good idea. I just hate aether gathering so much as it is. I really don't pay much attention to the game while gathering, and this would require me to keep an eye on the screen instead of the TV while grinding out my precious aether.

They should just have a capcha phrase come up randomly for everyone and boot those who fail. The random time between phrases would increase each time you get it right and decrease each time you fail. That way the bots get shorter and shorter windows to play unattended and real people soon only have to do it once/day.

That sounds like a logical idea. One problem with that is people getting booted while afk for a bit. You so smart Winin. Did you ever finish up those last few Krall quests? Havn't seen you on in a while.

I haven't finished those quests. I got Borderlands and have been on a shooty kick for a bit. That and lots of work travel make Winin a slow leveler.

Seems like this might be a shot across the bow of Bot's and people seeking to manipulate the economy.
Shitty yea for the normal player yea -- but might be a decent way to stop bot's from aether farming (i've seen a few recently) but if they can put this in place why can't they figgure out something for the damn gold sellers.
Hate to say it but I think they just need to get rid of the above the head stuff for people setting up personal stores. (but thats off topic).
yea -- going to make my aether leveling slower if this goes prod.

Honestly, I had two bots stealing my Aether nodes last night.
Captchas suck, but if it stops Bots I won't complain.
