 Direct2Drive doesn't work :(
« Thread Started on Oct 29, 2009, 9:06am »

A while back, I bought the X-com series, but every time I try to download, d2d crashes my browser or somehow fails to actually put a game directly on my drive.

I've tried in firefox and ie. In ie, it asks for permission to install a downloader, I say yes, then ie freezes.

With Firefox, I eventually was able to download a zip file with the game, but that was after getting an error window saying D2D couldn't work with Firefox. It seems silly to have a web-based service that is incompatible with Firefox.

Anyone have any experience with them? I guess I should look for their support page.

Yes, I've used them successfully in the past. I use Firefox about 99% of the time at home, but in cases of large downloads like games, I use FlashGet to manage the download.

So I don't need their downloader? It seems to be what fails (during install).

oh, yeah I forgot about their special downloader. I do use that for their site. Sorry! I was thinking of other game installs like betas for mmo's and such and using FlashGet for them.
I don't recall having to do anything special for their downloader :/

Any information in the application/system logs that might say why IE is crashing?

To maybe get around the Firefox issue You *might* want to try ietab addon for FireFox. it uses firefox for everyrthing but ie's rendering engine (if the rendering engine is whats causing you problems won't matter thought)...

(IE Tab Clicky - https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1419)
