Direct2Drive doesn't work :( « Thread Started on Oct 29, 2009, 9:06am »
A while back, I bought the X-com series, but every time I try to download, d2d crashes my browser or somehow fails to actually put a game directly on my drive.
I've tried in firefox and ie. In ie, it asks for permission to install a downloader, I say yes, then ie freezes.
With Firefox, I eventually was able to download a zip file with the game, but that was after getting an error window saying D2D couldn't work with Firefox. It seems silly to have a web-based service that is incompatible with Firefox.
Anyone have any experience with them? I guess I should look for their support page.

Yes, I've used them successfully in the past. I use Firefox about 99% of the time at home, but in cases of large downloads like games, I use FlashGet to manage the download.

oh, yeah I forgot about their special downloader. I do use that for their site. Sorry! I was thinking of other game installs like betas for mmo's and such and using FlashGet for them. I don't recall having to do anything special for their downloader :/

Any information in the application/system logs that might say why IE is crashing?
To maybe get around the Firefox issue You *might* want to try ietab addon for FireFox. it uses firefox for everyrthing but ie's rendering engine (if the rendering engine is whats causing you problems won't matter thought)...
